Q4 news from Bitdefender

Antivirus software is an important part of every PC. We often add a Bitdefender license to our desktops, so that our customers can enjoy higher online security levels.

In this piece, we will sum up the latest reports on the efficiency of this software pack, as antivirus software is often meticulously tested. After all, security always comes first.

AV-Comparatives grades Bitdefender highly!

AV-Comparatives is an independent organization that offers regular testing to verify whether such security software as PC antivirus or mobile security products live up to their promise.

Using one of the largest global sample collections, the organization creates a real-life environment for truly detailed tests. AV-Comparatives offers results free of charge to private individuals, news organizations and research institutions. AV-Comparatives certification is an official stamp of approval of software performance, recognized all over the world.

The history of AV-Comparatives started with a virus infection experienced by its founder. In 1993, Andreas Clementi got a computer virus called “NOV_17.855”. It made him curious.

Andreas was not satisfied with antivirus software test results, often contradictory, published by hardware periodicals; hence, he started to investigate malware and antivirus software thoroughly, and he hasn’t stopped by the present day.

In 1999, he founded AV-Comparatives as a student project at the Innsbruck University. He did this for purely technical reasons, just to view the quality of products delivered by various manufacturers. He received lots of feedback as antivirus software vendors learned about the Innsbruck duo and expressed their interest in taking part in the tests.

Bitdefender wonderfully passed a test attack by AV-Comparatives, built to exploit the MITRE matrix detection and TFP identification options.  In the latest attack test, the first one by AV-Comparatives, Bitdefender performed at 100%.

In its H2 2019 report, AV Comparative added an Enhanced Real World Test to determine the level of protection from advanced and permanent online threats. They asked CISO for the new test, as they consider it to be an indispensable tool for determining optimized company asset security assurance model.

Bitdefender with its business solutions have a long tradition of leading test ranks, while the latest Real-World Protection and Enhanced Real-World Protection results, with 100% detection rate, only strengthen the company’s position in the cybersecurity market.

The results emphasize the GravityZone business solution’s capability of safeguarding systems in any scenario, but more importantly, in real life. The product can block sophisticated attacks to which businesses are exposed on a daily basis, including fileless threats and exploits.

Also, Bitdefender is certified for “Advanced Threat Protection” as an enterprise product by AV-Comparatives. The test, covering Bitdefender Endpoint Security Elite, was launched on Windows 10,

and the certificate was issued in December 2019. As “AV Approved Business Product”, the program had to reach at least 90% in a general real-life security test (during four months), with less than 100 false alarms identifying good software and secure sites.

Bitdefenfer among the three leaders of the independent Cloud Workload Security benchmark

“The Forrester Wave ™: Cloud Workload Security, Q4 2019” is the first wave of CWS provider ratings by Forester, an outstanding global analytics organization. Bitdefender was recognized as one of the Top 3 out of 13 providers being assessed. The ranking was based on strict evaluation, taking into account the vendors’ product ranges, strategies and market presence. As many as 30 criteria were applied.

“Bitdefender excels in database, user, and agent rollout management”, says the Forrester report. “Bitdefender builds on its malware, memory, and hypervisor protection / introspection legacy to craft a broad CWS solution.

The solution is a match for organizations requiring very strong hypervisor control capabilities in hybrid clouds.”

Bitdefender’s Top performing categories:

Security capabilities:

HyperDetect, Bitdefender’s custom-tunable machine learning engine for threat detection, patch management, and unique capabilities enabled by Bitdefender Hypervisor Introspection, helped Bitdefender earn the top marks possible in the criteria of:

  • Operating system-level workload protection
  • Scalability: protected hypervisors
  • Hypervisor protection

Management simplicity and usability:

Bitdefender’s extensive configuration capabilities for setting up back-end data stores, usable bulk rollout mechanism, configurable malware protection, and binary privilege escalation control, led to the highest scores possible in the criteria of:

  • Setup, configuration, and data integration
  • Context-sensitive help
  • Navigation, integrated environment

Strategy:

Forrester believes Bitdefender’s plans to expand the range of capabilities in the software-as-a-service version of GravityZone; improve attack detection and response for Linux systems; and release container protection modules, including image scanning and configuration drift/anomaly detection contributed to top possible scores in the criteria of:

  • Centralized agent framework plans
  • Hypervisor protection plans
  • Services and partners

The report also stated that Bitdefender’s solution offers very strong hypervisor introspection capabilities and good API-based policy management as well as configurable dashboards. Bitdefender has integration partnerships with leading hybrid cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, Pivotal, VMware, Nutanix, and Citrix.

It was a good quarter of year for Bitdefender!

In Q4 2019, Bitdefender was mostly recognized for its software capability and extensive automation options.

Hypervisor protection is among the greatest challenges faced by software developers. When it becomes a weak spot, the user system is exposed to the highest risks possible.

So I am very optimistic about the honors awarded in this category, just like about their plans to improve threat response for Linux systems.
